King Of Wasps

Named after the mythical Garuda bird, the national emblem of Indonesia, this species of giant, venomous wasp was discovered in 2012 on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. In addition to their unusually enormous size, the males of this species have large, sickle-shaped jaws. Very little is known about the life or behaviour of these mysterious insects, as they have never been observed or recorded alive. These specimens were found and collected after they were deceased.

This King Of Wasps (Megalara garuda) has been hand set by our expert entomologists in our studio and mounted in a museum quality bell jar.

All of the insects in our collection are responsibly and ethically sourced through sustainable insect farming and commercial breeding.

This approach helps native communities generate a sustainable and equitable income, while providing an economic incentive to protect endangered habitats rather than environmentally destructive practices such as deforestation for logging and agriculture.
