Cape York Birdwing
-
The Cape York Birdwing is a widespread species of birdwing butterfly found in the central and south Maluku Islands, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and north-east Australia. This insect was first described over two hundred years ago and since that time the species has been broken up into up to 99 different subspecies which inhabit different geographic ranges. One of these subspecies, Ornithoptera priamus urvillianus, is bright blue! This rare insect is also in our collection - look out for the Priam’s Blue Birdwing!

All of the insects in our collection are responsibly and ethically sourced through sustainable insect farming and commercial breeding.
This approach helps native communities generate a sustainable and equitable income, while providing an economic incentive to protect endangered habitats rather than environmentally destructive practices such as deforestation for logging and agriculture.
