Knightia is an extinct genus of bony fish that lived in the freshwater lakes and rivers of North America and Asia during the Eocene epoch. It is one of the most commonly excavated fish fossils in the world, with hundreds occasionally being found in a single square metre of fossiliferous rock. Due to this evidence of mass mortality, and the known behaviour of closely related modern-day fish such as herring and sardines, it is believed that ​​these fish lived in large shoals of hundreds of individuals.

This Knightia Alta Fish (44 Million Years Old) has been displayed and elegantly mounted in a museum quality deep box frame, by our expert in house team.
